Mutation is a permanent change in the genetic material of an organism. They provide new alleles in a species abd are the only source of new genetic variation when inherited. When there is a mutation in the DNA, a cell may exhibit new characteristics, it could die, malfunction, or multiply.

MUTATION

Mutations that significantly alter the shape or structure of DNA often adversely affect the well being of an organism and can be harmful. On the otherhand, some can be beneficial such as mutations can provide a Selective Advantage, which is a genetic advantage that improves an organism's chance of survival, usually in a changing environment.

This is an exaple of mutation which is beneficial and non beneficial. It can cause some problem when the species are reproduced by similar DNA such for animals, or it can be favoured in terms of survival such as for fruits.
