Catastrophism is the idea that catastrophes, which means Earth’s crustal features such as strata layers, erosion, diseases, floods, droughts, resulted the cataclysmic activity in the past. In other way to say, the Earth’s surface has been scarred by catastrophic natural disasters. This theory was popularised by Georges Cuvier in early 19th century, but this theory was opposed since the bible affect this theory which was denyed at the end of 19th century.

Uniformitarianism is the theory which was to oppose the idea of catastrophism, so the idea are totally opposite. This theory was popularised by Charles Lyell, additionally based on James Hutton's theory. This theory is about, The way of thinking from which it's assumed that the process which acted in the past will be same as the process observed at present in nature. The global look which became a basis of the modern geology learned about with an expression as "the key from which present unties the past".
